Small Brains, however, require the crutches of platitudes, buzz words and the like as a replacement for their lack of vision, creativity and self esteem. There’s nothing like relying on raw hemp ropes of social conventions for support. But what if we were to follow the practice of Grandmother Spider and produce our own unique webs of support from fine silk filaments? Much stronger, cheaper to produce, certainly more aesthetic, and just a finer set of creations all the way around. Small Brains are like children and pets. They need help, support, resources and rules to be able to even minimally manage their existence. Grow up! The human race either needs to immediately take advantage of an opportunity for a quantum leap in evolution or we wil experience the inevitable devolutionary spiral back into primal ooze.

Hi..y mind is tearing me apart as i replay over and over one of the nights i worked at my fairly new job..i had a new admit, a confused patient that was treated for infection.. i spent so much time in the room with patient calming hi/her down that on the long run i failed to initiate f/c or do a blader scan .on the back of my mind i thought as dialysis patient that is why there is no output..as day shift came first thing they did is FC and there was like 400+ ml output…cant take time back..glad to have great coworkers..hope ill let it go soon, just cant stop thinking about it tho…thanks for your post i do feel better.. but im just so scared something lile that happening again.. so ill wright down to your 8 rules and will follow them…thanks: )))

And you too, Keri! Nurses tend to forget that they were once students. I love to teach but I also love to be taught new things, better way of doing things.. and please do not ever forget… you need to ask CNA’s also how the best way to do something… like transfers, talk to or deal with a certain type of patient. Yes, CNA’s can teach you alot if you will let them. I have had RN’s ask me… why don’t you become a Real Nurse? I am an LPN. So sad… I don’t take this out on the other nurses…. not your fault. Just pray for them but do not talk back to these that say those things.

yeah, I know this is old saying but… never forget that some day, this just might be you in that bed. It probably will be and how do you want to be treated? I have had some state, “I ain’t wiping anyone’s butt!” Sad, but yes, they said it! Then why are you in nursing in the first place? Please go read Florence NIghtingale’s biography. She swept out dead rats, cleaned up bloody walls, floors and anything else that had blood on it, including people. If you genuinely want to be a nurse, you will then do anything to make that patient comfortable which means, cleaning them, emptying bedpans and urinals and changing soiled linens. If you don’t want to do this or can’t stand the thought of it, then please, Do everyone a favor…..please… DO NOT GO INTO NURSING. I have worked enough with these types of “nurses”.

This is an amazing read. I too and a nursing student, well WAS, till I was falsely accused of cheating along with 18 others in my class. Without reason we received F and academic dishonesty and kicked out. The faculty treated us horribl-y!!! check out the article here for some more insight.. Thank you for this! This is why we are standing up to this type of behavior. Someone needs to lead the path to a much more healthier future in nurses!!

I’m sorry but this is really a terrible list. 2/3 of them could be instantly addressed with employee social media guidelines and most of the others are complete nonsense. I can only hope you are kidding when you say “Your surgeon will tweet the wrong body part” and “The wrong laboratory results will be mis-tweeted.” Do you work in healthcare? Do you understand what twitter is and what it’s used for? Why would a healthcare provider use the world’s most popular one-to-many site to broadcast confidential patient information intentially?

I always thought the healthcare organisation Medilink Y&H (@MedilinkYH) used social media really well. They’ve engaged a relevant audience of clinicians, academics & healthcare professionals (like me!) and don’t just self-promote but share valuable information about the sector including news, calls to tender, funding opportunities and loads of UKTI export opportunities!

I don’t know what to do. I live in a violent household with my husband and 2 children. The only thing that is keeping me from leaving, and starting a new life without my abuser is money. I don’t have enough to sustain myself and my children, and continue to live a normal life…not a privileged life or with any extras that I do not need, just enough to survive. I wish I knew someone who could help me get out of this situation, but I don’t. So I am stuck. I need help but don’t know where to turn. It’s dangerous, and I hope and pray something really horrible does not happen until someone with the resources can find it in their heart to help me. I have no one and I need out of this situation.

This is absolutely amazing .. Well done
I’m a student nurse and i will sure be showing this to all my classmates and no doubt it will inspire!
On my very first placement the ward sister brought me aside and told me if I put 100% into this ward I will get 200% in return, Iv done it in every placement I have been on and it has not failed me yet!
Also I understand that some nurses get frustrated with students, but please remember we are learning, we find it extremely uncomfortable getting used to new places and all we ask for is a little time and patience. Nurses were student nurse first!
